Food? I love food! Exercise? I love exercise! Why is ordering a pizza is much easier than going to the studio? Over the years I've learned that being lazy is nice, but exercise makes me feel so much better about myself. The biggest issue I have? Motivation. I believe it's something most of us have struggled with. But how do you overcome such a wall?
Well there's a few little tricks that I found over the years to help me overcome my lazy streak. First trick I use, is shopping. Yes, it sounds superficial, but buying a nice workout outfit really makes me feel great, before I've even hit the mat. It always feels good when you feel like you look good. So go ahead and spoil yourself a bit. There's nothing wrong with that!
Another trick I use is to tell myself, I only need to do a little bit. Just a tiny bit of exercise will take me far. And sometimes I only do a little, which is fine, but most times I get really into it and I continue to do more until I am satisfied. It's okay to struggle with motivation, the best thing is to learn tricks and habits that will help you overcome that hurdle.
Speaking of habits, another great tip is to make good habits. They say it only takes 30 days to create a habit. I like to start off small until I am fully comfortable with the new good habit, and then I move to a bigger habit. Once you get into the habit of things, they wont feel like such a chore anymore. This tip isn't just great for exercise, it's great for every day life.
Another great habit to get into, is to listen to motivational speakers! I always feel motivated after hearing about other people accomplishing so much in their lives. It makes me believe that I can do it too and that always has a way to get me to move. Once you create good habits, that move you towards a goal, you'll notice that your life is slowly changing. You will soon find that you are living the lifestyle that you always dreamed of.
Having a friend around who also has similar goals as yours, is also a great motivational tool. It makes us feel better when we start a new journey with someone else who's on the same level as us. It's also great to have them there so you can talk about all your sore muscles the next day. You can also feed new health tips to each other and try new recipies together.
Creating a reward system is another way to motivate yourself. The kind of rewards I use are TV shows or chapters in book. I say to myself, if I get the dishes done I can reward myself with my favourite show or my faviourite book. This can even be used for long term things like studying. One hour of studying = 1 book chapter and then you go back to studying for an hour. You can increase the study time if you get in the zone, which is the perfect place to be.
The last tip I have for you is to be kind to yourself! There's no need to beat yourself up about not doing something. It's really not healthy to say negative things to yourself, so lighten up, give yourself a hug and a kiss and be thankful for all the good things you have in your life. Sometimes we forget to thank ourselves for being so great, for all the things we've already acomplished in our lives. The rest of the things will come in time. You just need to believe you can overcome the hurdle and truck on!
I hope you've found this useful. If there are any other tips that help you get motivated, I'd love to hear them!
Until next time,
